Taking initiative against corruption is not an easy work to do. From individuals to Government, National and International agencies are working and raising voices against corruption. Nepal became a party to the United Nations Convention against Corruption in February 2011 and on 29 August 2011, the cabinet decided to chart out strict anti-corruption bill .At Youth Initiative, we are trying to add value in the work that has already been done against corruption and also come up with new ideas. So, as the title of this write-up suggests, we have definitely started something and are committed to the cause.

- We started within ourselves: as one of our working themes for five years (2009-2013) is Youth in Governance. We have made our effort in strengthening institution as well as advocacy programs and campaigns. Now, we are policy and systems guided organization and have established grounds for ourselves as a corruption free organization. Also, different advocacy programs to educate and encourage youth to take action against corruption have been done and will be conducted in days to come.
- Integrity Conference:
On 2 July 2011, we organized Integrity Conference with an aim to promote integrity as we felt somehow we are missing integrity as a variable to work with transparency and accountability. Conference was a gathering of people from different walks of life; politicians, government officials, civil society leaders, entrepreneurs, business person, journalists etc. Above all, people who want to be a part of solution and promote integrity. On the same day we launched Bhrastachari Lai Kira Paros “May the Corrupt Rot”-anti corruption campaign and future programs for the same cause.- Integrity badge:
Our Integrity badge is trendy, driving and holds strong message “Integrity” which can be pin down either on t-shirts, jackets, bags or wherever our creativity suggests. This badge has been initiated to advocate and promote integrity which is crucial to stand against corruption.- J
oining hands with Nepal Unites (very actively working Facebook based group), prominent personalities Mr. Rabindra Mishra-Senior Journalist and Head of BBC Nepali Service, Mr. Ramesower Khanal-Former Finance Secretary, MAHA Jodi-Mr. Madan Krishna Shrestha and Mr. Hari Bamsha Acharya, Mr. Anil Chitrakar-Social Entrepreneur and institutions who want to fight corruption. Collaboration and coordination has always been key, to foster collaboration among government agencies and civil society organizations and citizens, on 28 July 2011, solidarity event was organized at Commission of Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA)to support the good work of CIAA. Around 300 people from different walks to life gathered where Secretary of CIAA Mr. Bhagwati Kafle expressed his commitment against corruption and thank the campaigner for taking initiation.
- T-Shirt as a tool:
One of the interventions of this campaign is the T-shirt “Bhrastachari lai kira paros”, many people who strongly felt for the campaign sponsored the t-shirt that costs Rs.350, which is actual production cost and is a selling price. No profit attached at all on Youth Initiative’s behalf. However, there are other business houses and youth groups who are designed and produced t-shirts on their own throughout the country. The prices ranges from Rs. 200-500 depending upon the quality and design. YI doesn’t have any association with t-shirt producing companies or groups, we only recommend the places where it is available.- Integrity Awards:

Youth Initiative recognizes young people as change makers and agents of social transformation and hence encourages them to take leadership to bring about positive changes in the societies they live in while growing to their fullest potential. This year, Youth Initiative Award is named as Integrity Award, which is a part of its continuous effort to fight against corruption. Hence the award seeks out the Nepal’s most promising youth advocates who have the potential to make a big impact against corruption. Applications are on till 15 November 2011, we highly encourage you to apply!
- Prime Minister Acknowledges anti-corruption campaign :
As the anti-corruption movement Bhrastachari Lai Kira Paros” May the corrupt rot” spreads, on 10 September, campaigners met Prime Minister Dr. Babu Ram Bhattarai. Senior Journalist and Philanthropist Mr. Rabindra Mishra, highly respected senior comedy duo Mr. Madan Krishna Shrestha & Mr. Hari Bamsha Acharya, Secretary of Commission of Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Mr. Bhagwati Kafle and other members shared the initiation behind the movement. On the same occasion, “May the Corrupt Rot” t-shirt was handed over to him. Upon receiving the t-shirt, Dr. Bhattarai acknowledged the movement from citizens against corruption and expressed his commitment to curb graft. One of the commitments from him to look forward is the fulfillment of vacant position in CIAA.
- CIAA adds value to the campaign:
CIAA printed the slogan Bhrastachari Lai Kira Paros slogan as a stickers, which is one more add to their many other slogans to aware and act against corruption. On 20 September 2011, CIAA handed over the t-shirt to all the Secretaries of Nepal Government. As Senior Public Servants, wearing this t-shirt means a strong commitment towards integrity and against corruption. We hope t-shirt helps in creating hatred to corruption and declining corruption.- Campaign spreading all over the country:
Since the campaign is an initiation of all concerned Nepali, youth in different parts of the country is taking voluntary initiatives. In Gorkha, the Chief District Officer wear the T-shirt at his office, In Janakpur, youth did rally and sit-in protest against corruption.
