Celebration of International Human Rights Day (10 December, 2011)

Marking the 63rd International Human Rights Day, Youth Initiative organized different programs together with Government and non-government organizations in different parts of the country. Some of the highlights of the events were rallies, football match and media interaction on this issue related to Human Rights.

Human Rights awareness rally was organized in Gorahi, Dang. Also, Peace rally was marched through major streets of Dhangadi which turned into an Assembly. Addressing the participants Mr. Kailash kumar Bajmai, Chief of District Administration Office in Dhangadi, Mr. Dharmaraj Pathak, Civil Society's Leader from Kailali, Mr.Sundar Raj Regmi, Peace Committee Chairman, Human Rights Commission and Mr. Dipendra Bhadhur Singh, National Human Rights Commission Leader discussed about Human Rights. Interaction program followed the rally where participants shared their views and opinions regarding local human rights issue.

Similarly, ‘Friendly Football Game' was organized on 9th December to bring together government and non-government organizations in Janakpur. Placards read different slogans ¬¬¬¬upholding Human Rights messages which ended up in candle lightning ceremony in Janaki Temple area. Many youth participated in Blood donation drive including a fund raising event that generated Nrs.20, 000.

In Pokhara, Human Rights day was dedicated for the visually impaired youth, where by Youth Initiative organized Rights Based Approach training with the involvement of Blind Association at Myagdi and Parbat.

In all events, speakers emphasized on the effective implementation of human rights by all sector, be it Government agencies or Non-governmental organizations. Senior human rights defenders, activists, government officials, civil society members, students, representatives from Nepal Police participated in the rally in different parts of country.

Youth Initiative continues its effort in promoting and practicing human rights through its various interventions of empowering and involving young people.
