Ending Global Slavery: Everyday Heroes Leading the Way
Join Humanity United and Ashoka's Changemakers in a global online competition to identify innovative approaches to exposing, confronting and ending modern-day slavery. Submission Deadline: June 18, 6pm EST
Documentary Photo Project
The Open Society Institute is offering a grant to photographers who propose creative ways to distribute completed bodies of work and use photography as an advocacy tool. The 2008 OSI Documentary Photography Project will award grants of $5,000 to $30,000 to documentary photographers who have already completed a significant body of work on issues of social justice to collaborate with a partner organization and design an innovative distribution strategy that targets specific communities and advocates for social change. Neighborhood Excellence Initiative
The Bank of America Charitable Foundation is accepting applications/nominations for its Neighborhood Excellence Initiative designed to recognize, nurture, and reward community organizations, local heroes, and student leaders who are helping their neighborhoods achieve excellence. Application Deadline: June 27
Do Something Grants for Young Social Entrepreneurs
Do Something Plum Grants are designed to recognize young people, age 25 and younger, in the United States and Canada who have a great idea for a sustainable community action project, program or organization community action project and who need support to turn their idea into reality. These grants provide $500 to further the growth and success of your program. Application Deadline: Rolling/Ongoing
National Youth Conference: July 9—11
The U.S. Public Service Academy will host a three-day, two-night youth conference in Washington, D.C., to generate enthusiasm and mobilize support for the Academy initiative. 70-80 student supporters will learn more about the Academy, develop citizenship skills, and advocate for the Academy's cause.
BKFK (By Kids For Kids) Challenge
BKFK (By Kids For Kids) challenges youth up to age 19 to create an advertising or media campaign on a social issue. Entries must be new, original ideas for the creation of an advertising/media campaign to promote awareness of or a solution to a social issue or cause that can be successfully implemented and /or brought to market.
Youth Assembly at the United Nations
The Annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations attracts hundreds of youth participants to New York City in August from over 52 countries who are interested in identifying pressing global issues and working towards enacting positive change. The mission of the Youth Assembly is to inspire young people to make a difference in United Nations renewal by giving them the opportunity to learn and get involved with programs aimed at achieving the Millennium Development Goals.
