Youth Resource Center
Assessing
the need of Youth Service Centers that provides counseling
and services related to physical and mental health of young
people Youth Resource Center was established formally in the
third General Assembly. There are numerous recreational centers
and places where youth hang out but still there lacks an alternative
place where young people can have a place for recreation and
entertainment which provides life skills, support and guidance.
Youth Resource Center is envisioned as a common forum for
young people, which will provide the opportunity for youth
to develop to their fullest potential. It will provide every
possible resource needed for the young people so as to contribute
towards and facilitate their physical, emotional, intellectual
and social development.
The
Youth Resource Center in present is in the form of a Resource
Library, where youths can access various information and resources
that are relevant/related to them.
At present the physical infrastructure of this resource library
is in preliminary stage with a few bookshelves and furniture
with a one-room setup. The members and volunteers have worked
hard to collect the resources for the Resource Center. From
various organizations and individuals about 600 books/magazines
have been collected. This will be a continual process.
Youth Initiative recognizes the inadequate investment made
in meeting the overall needs of young people. Their potentiality
and interests are often bypassed and not recognized. What
young people need is the opportunity and a little bit of help
and facilitation. The Youth Resource Center is an effort towards
addressing this by providing integrated youth and recreational
services. We believe, right tools and guidance contributes
to the overall development of youth, leading them to a responsible
and self-sufficient adulthood.
So far this small effort has been able to offer the members
of Youth Initiative and other friends of YI an alternative
hang out and make the productive use of their time by enjoying
and benefiting from the Resource Center. |
