Priority
areas for action for Youth of Nepal Outcomes of a Youth Survey
Youth Initiative carried out a survey among youth to prioritize
5 issues among the 15 priority areas identified in the World
Program of Action for Youth (WPAY) and World Youth Report
2003. This survey was done to mark the International Youth
Day 2005. WPAY was adopted by the UN General Assembly in
1996 and it provides a policy framework and practical guidelines
for national action and international support to improve
the situation of young people.
The survey was carried out in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Janakpur,
Chitwan and Nawalparasi. Online submissions were taken from
the website www.youthinitiative.org.np and the survey form was also published in the Infotiser
magazine. A total of 1521 entries were received.
The 5 priorities areas for the Youth of Nepal identified
by this survey are:

Employment;

Youth Participation;
-
Health and
-
Youth and Conflict.
The 15 global priority areas for action identified in the
WPAY and World Youth Report 2003 are Education, Employment,
Hunger and poverty, Health, Environment, Drug abuse, Juvenile
delinquency, Leisure-time activities, Girls and young women,
Youth Participation, Globalization, Information and Communication
Technologies, HIV/AIDS, Youth and Conflict, and Intergenerational
Relations.
